Peaceful Heights GO FUND ME, a local effort creating equity and equality with high-quality Pre-k schools and networks

Peaceful Heights Montessori School Post Pandemic Expansion Plans

Peaceful Heights Montessori School now offers kindergarten to everyone.  Kindergarten is the third year in the 75-year time tested Montessori Method supporting preschool age 3-6 children. The school now offers it free to the atrisk children supported by Child Care Assistence Program (CCAP) and Parent Aware provided Peaceful Heights has had the opportunity to prepare the child for kindergarten. Mom and families are encouraged to focus on this early and not wait to enroll. For private pay families and children, the school will defer half the tuition to the following year anticipating the Go Fund Me Effort is successful reducing the deferred amounts. Also, mom and families are encouraged to focus on this early and not wait to enroll in preschool for the price of child care.

The school will pursue funding sources to fill in the pool of unfunded costs based on readiness merit with obvious links to Equity and Equal Opportunity. No source of funds will be ruled out.  Business of all sizes have proclaimed they want to do more to directly impact society’s Equity and Equality issues.  This is important to the largest entities of the nation in demonstration of doing first-things-first.  The positive expectation from doing this first- things-first is routinely addressed to the Federal Reserve Bank as a fairness issue.  This issue is everywhere, all preschools and all children are registering outcomes in the gap measurement.

The school will ask CCAP, Parent Aware and school districts to pay for a defined going into first grade readiness outcome.  To date school districts and government payments for pre-k have not been based on outcomes. It will backstop all the above with a Go Fund Me Effort focused on the private sector of Northern Dakota County.

The school will also look Federally at the new Child Care Credit that became refundable for a year or two in anticipation it might continue for all. An IRS publication has said that kindergarten is not child care, but the issue has not been tested since it became refundable and the interface between preschool child care and kindergarten definitions at present are counterproductive with families giving power to the teacher’s unions (go figure).  I mention this because child care and preschool funding and definitions are changing with per child outcomes coming into greater focus.

But what you need to know right now is that the Peaceful Heights kindergarten year is now available to you.  When new clients signup they will know a special 3-year preschool program is in place and it will create best outcomes for the child. It helps to start the child with us as an infant, almost 50% of our graduates into kindergarten of first grade started school with us as an infant. Ready for third grade in literacy, math and positive expectations is a clear commitment to high-quality outcomes at the school.  Last year parents asked Peaceful Heights to provide Montessori kindergarten.  Five students enrolled and the results have been outstanding.

This letter will be published at https://www.usa-positive-expectations.com and https://www.facebook.com/peacefulheights dated in mid-June 2021, to take the issue beyond Northern Dakota County and the local school districts. As mentioned above it is important and unique.

Our Most atrisk children, parents and networks for the child did not have an opportunity to attend the third year of the Peaceful Heights Montessori Preschool Program and as a result they in the past missed the capstone year of learning where the education program puts it all together for Reading, Math and Positive Expectations outcomes. They were forced (without Equity) into a school district kindergarten program oriented to assimilation instead of Highest-Quality continuation of the most sensitive year of learning provided by the third year of Montessori preschool education. This is a large equity shortcoming with life-long implications. Experts know the brain is naturally most sensitive to age 0-6 learning, however the funding cutoff between child care and elementary school divides the funding providers to assimilate into kindergarten rather than continue to best outcomes for first grade.

The same statement is true for private pay children, families and networks where the families cost reduction of financially free public-school kindergarten overwhelms the concept of first-things-first positive early expectations with an outstanding return on investment.  Free is never really free and earliest is almost always best.

The third year is most important to the child if the program is highest quality. It is important to the city, district, county, state and nation. The Go Fund Me program at Peaceful Heights Montessori will attempt to demonstrate how any High-Quality Preschool can make the 3rd year (kindergarten) available so the 6th year of the 0–6-year sensitive learning period is spent learning rather than assimilating.

Gifts to GO FUND ME will be directly deposited into Peaceful Heights Montessori School and segregated into an account. The five-year projection of giving against the requirement has the school underfunded for three years at normal tuition rates but catching up on the earlier deficits. Peaceful Heights as a private business will absorb the cash flow loss to demonstrate the longer-term positive expectation just like other private businesses invest in more risk for growth.

Notes from the projection at  https://www.usa-positive-expectations.com/support-files/gofundmeprojection.pdf

Private pay families are integral to making this program feasible.  The balance due for tuition from private pay families is due and payable in the 2nd year. It is paid by the families under contract in the 2nd year if not covered by the Go Fund Me effort.  Private pay is the foundation that creates the opportunity for leverage, messaging and reasonable risk taking.

First year has GO FUND ME projected proceeds of $50,000 and the school carries a receivable into the following year of $38,000 because of unfunded costs.  10 children are served.

Second year 10 children are served; the proceeds are $87,000 and the school carries a receivable of $39,000 into the next year.

Third year 14 children are served; the proceeds are $150,000; and the school carries forward a $12,000 receivable.

At that point, the school must construct more classroom space at 375 Marie Avenue East in West St. Paul.  It has informally secured the financing and has the land. The program projection generally caps out at $250,000 per year with 30 kindergarten children served per year.

Starting here with the Peaceful Heights Montessori discussion of kindergarten we are open to your questions. Funders will be published and celebrated. Funds go directly into the account of Peaceful Heights and measured against unfunded tuitions for the kindergarten year. Shortage in funding the difference becomes a loss for the school in the normal course of operations.  There are no fundraising fees paid to owners and employees.  Thomas and Julie Wolfgram are the owners of the school.  It has been in operation for 15 years since 2006; is Parent Aware 4 Star Rated.

It has always been an operational disappointment to see the children move onto free public-school kindergarten knowing their individual learning has been interrupted by the state's all-day kindergarten (started in 2012 or 2013) under Governor Dayton. Generally, and now post pandemic, the state has not and will not show improvement measured against the best (the gap) because they just cannot reach the child early enough to deliver the individual early requirements to reading, math and positive expectations one child at a time.

In this light, we offer the state a solution and our first request is that CCAP and Parent Aware scholarships representing the state’s funders of preschool find a way to fund our children for measurable best outcomes. Also, first to ask is the school district to fund the children via a discretionary experiment.  Peaceful Height’s Operation could be set up as an education POD using its already established measurable outcomes. Given all the talk, the money for the PODs is in or should be in the pipeline.

But coming back to the GO FUND ME request.  Simply, each effective citizen must make change with an effective education contribution.  Being first-thing-first directly at the source of highest quality outcomes is recommended.  We do not want to miss resetting a first thing framework for equal opportunity, justice, free speech, economic freedom, individual liberty, civility, emotional intelligence and basic virtue.

Sincerely,

Thomas Wolfgram and Directress Julie Wolfgram

USA Positive Expectations are detailed though-out this site in the right columns.

Values, assets, attributes, messages and stories all run together creating civility in a spectrum of absolutes on the right and less absolute (relative) ranging in degree to the left.

What messages supported by stories do we want to send our age 0-6 children?

I am suggesting, just to start the concept, that grace and curtesy before Justice be a default and at least these messages be sent.

If these KINDNESS MESSAGES are sent the message of Justice will logically follow with appropriate understanding and  foundation.
